FRP Process Engineer
at Boat Builder in Florida
Primary responsibilities
Project management of FRP processes for new models:
• Develop processes for new models (with Manufacturing)
• Review design drawings for manufacturability.
• Design / Specify manufacturing tools and equipment needed.
• Create Manufacturing drawings as needed to specify assembly processes.
• Coordinate drawing and BOM updates w/ PC and Engineering
• Develop labor estimates for new models (with Manufacturing)
• Support Manufacturing on all technical issues
• Lead prototyping of new models – Hull #1 and #2 (with Manufacturing)
Process Engineering & Manufacturing Support:
• Support Manufacturing on all technical issues on existing models in the FRP area.
• Maintain / update FRP drawings for existing models.
• Develop / implement process improvements on existing models
• Develop facilities plans (with Manufacturing) for FRP area.
• Lead / assist with cost savings and efficiency efforts in FRP area.
Performance Indicators
Successful launch of new models through Prototyping Phase
Schedule attainment (with Manufacturing)
Number of open issues remaining after hull 5
BOM cost vs budget
Actual labor hours vs budget
Efficiency gains of existing production processes
Implementation of both new and improved processes
BOM cost vs budget
Labor hours vs budget
Short Term Goals
Lead process improvement focused on product quality.
Optimize the FRP department layout, establishing work cells for Small and Medium Parts Lamination, and optimizing material / product flow through the process
Establish “Job Card” system for FRP processes (With Manufacturing)
Successful launch of new models
Coordinate needed tooling changes for all models w/ PD Shop
Coordinate drawing and BOM updates for FRP w/ PC and Engineering
Address technical portion of all “Fit-up” issues.
Establish mold maintenance procedures
