Job Description: Controller


Reports to: Vice President/CFO
Classification: Exempt
Department: Accounting/Finance

General Scope: The Controller designs, implements and manages the administrative, operational and financial processes for the Company – including asset management, cash flow and control policies – in an efficient, cost effective and customer service oriented manner. The Controller uses good judgment and the highest level of integrity when making decisions involving financial reporting and operating results.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Performs, as well as, manages the administrative, operational and financial policies, procedures and processes that support financial goals and performance expectations.

2. Ensures that at all times, business is conducted within the scope of their authority and does so at the highest ethical and professional standards. Ensures adherence to sound, generally accepted accounting principles, such as segregation of duties, accurate matching of revenues and cost, sound capital decisions, proper valuation of inventories and other assets, and consistency in the application of these and other principles.

3. Evaluates the impact of short and long term strategies in areas of financial and managerial accounting and reporting, financial control, budgeting, and planning. Recommends appropriate strategies, policies and courses of action.

4. Analyzes performance versus expectations and established trends. Highlights significant deviations requiring operating management’s attention and action.

5. Assists in the development of financial staff through accounting and office training and effective performance management. Also provides challenging assignments and opportunities for development, rewards performance through effective recognition and compensation management.

6. Plans and implements operating procedures to improve efficiency of operation and reduce costs (e.g. in the areas of: CGS, OH, and general operations)

7. Oversees and directs budgeting, audit, tax and accounting (AP, AR, PR, GL, Cost Accounting) processes and staff.

8. Directs accounting department in providing and directing procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and afford adequate accounting controls and operating reports.

9. Appraises the organization’s financial position and compiles monthly financial and operating reports.

10. Designs and coordinates the establishment of budget programs.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) or equivalent; or three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Public accounting experience preferred.
